The Nativity

The Nativity

We have been learning about the true story of the Christmas this week and the reason for celebrating Christmas day. Alongside this, the children have also been learning the songs from our nativity play. We hope you are hearing some of the songs being sampled at home!

Our role play area has involved learning about how to care for babies at the baby clinic, including how to feed, bath, change and dress them. Some children are now very good at putting on nappies and doing up baby grow poppers. Some babies are learning to eat solid food (play dough creations) and have tried many biscuits and cakes!

Outside the donkeys have been travelling on journeys and even completing obstacle courses to reach the stable. There have been many Mary, Joseph and Jesus’ resting there.

The children have also enjoyed creating different modes of transport with reclaimed materials, created ‘hand’ shaped sheep and ‘twinkling’ stars.

Notes and reminders:

We would like to say a massive ‘Thank you’ to you all for your support with raising money for Children in Need last Friday. Our cake sale was very well supported and alone raised over £200.00!

  • Do you have any spare boxes of tissues that you would be happy to send in – particularly in Nursery? We seem to have had lots more colds than usual this term and need to replenish stocks, Thank you.
  • Costume lists have been sent home. Please could the necessary items be in school by Thursday 30th November, in a named bag.
  • Speaking parts are also being sent home. So if your child has a speaking part in The Nativity then please look out for their lines and practise them at home.

Many thanks

Year 1 Nativity

This week in Year 1 as we have been very busy learning songs for our Nativity! This year’s show is called ‘Hey Ewe!’ and tells the story of a little group of sheep up on the hillside. One of them is particularly curious and wants to know everything that is going on…… this curiosity eventually leads her to a certain little stable in Bethlehem…….you’ll find out more when you come to watch us!

Letters came home with your child last week about tickets for both the Year 1 and Foundation Stage Nativity. Please make sure you return your slip as soon as possible so that you can come and watch your lovely children perform. More tickets will go on sale at the office next week.

For Year 1 there is one early evening performance at 5.30pm on Tuesday 6th December. ALL children are expected to return to school for this. It is a really special evening for the children and is a great opportunity for parents and grandparents who usually work during the day to watch a performance. Please let your child’s teacher know if this is going to be difficult for you, as they all have a speaking part and an important part to play. Many thanks.

In other news we have been looking at Place Value in Maths, focusing particularly on the tricky teen numbers. The children have explored teen numbers in lots of different ways and some even began to make larger two-digit numbers with the ‘tens and units sticks’ (we call them diennes now!) that we might remember from school.
